Sophie Coblence is an executive vice president for One Strategy Group. She brings a wealth of expertise as a communications professional and executive coach having completed her training with the Columbia Coaching Certification Program at Teachers' College of Columbia University and Columbia Business School. Sophie spent over 15 years in corporate communications, leading and implementing marketing and communications strategies for Fortune 500 companies. Most recently, Sophie was the Initiative Lead at The Economist. There she managed a matrixed team including Policy, Content Marketing, Events, Strategic Comms, Web Production and influencer engagement for Economist Impact’s The Sustainability Project and World Ocean Initiative.

At BCW, a top 3 global PR agency working in London and New York, her role included business development, providing strategic counsel to C-Suite executives, managing operations, and building successful teams. Working across different industries, cultures, and regions, Sophie has learnt how to understand client needs, persuade teams to make strong business decisions, problem solve, and build trusted relationships.

As a coach, Sophie works with leaders across all industries, in particular marketing and communications given her background, bringing empathy, rigorous challenge, and clarity on best leadership practice. She has a particular interest in intercultural communication, the practice of effectively communicating across different cultures (whether nationality, gender, or ethnicity) so that teams recognize and respect the differences leading to a mutual exchange of ideas and adaptation. As someone who has experienced her own “culture shock” moving from London to New York, she helps professionals integrate, rather than assimilate, into a new culture and environment – whether relocating to a new city or country, starting a new profession, or changing organizations.

Sophie is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce where she actively mentors other Fellows. While living in London, Sophie was accepted as a mentor to work with a founder of a retail business in Uganda for 6 months as part of the “Women’s Mentoring Women in Business” program, established by the Cherie Blair Foundation.

Sophie was born and raised in London and holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Birmingham University, UK.
